SHAKER OVAL BOXES stack inside one another just like Russian dolls and are prized today for the patience and skill required to make them. Many hours are spent carefully handcrafting these quality Shaker Boxes that will last many generations. Handcrafted Shaker Oval Boxes are constructed using only four pieces which are held together without the use of glue. The steam-bent bands are secured with copper tacks, while the tops and bottoms are held in place with pegs. The characteristic swallow tail fingers, which are not only decorative but functional, are designed to relieve the joint and absorb the stress of seasonal movement. These features, as well as the oval shape, are perhaps the answer to the questions so many people ask: "How can something so delicate and light withstand generations of use?" Some originals are well over 150 years old and still look good today! Our Shaker boxes are made of fine cherry wood and are finished with oil and wax or old-fashioned milk paint. |
